Trading Bot Risk Management
A bot follows rules without emotion, but it cannot make a losing bet into a winning one. These habits protect your account.

1. Start on a demo account
Connect a Deriv demo account and run the bot there first. Watch how often it signals, how long losing streaks last, and how your balance moves. Only move to real money when the behaviour no longer surprises you.
2. Size the stake for losing streaks
Losing streaks are normal even in a fair 50/50 game. Over a few hundred contracts, a run of 7 or 8 losses in a row is common, and for low-probability contracts like Matches, runs of 20 or more are expected. A common rule of thumb is to keep each stake to a small percentage of the account (often 1–2%) so a long streak cannot empty it.
3. Set session limits before you start
- A loss limit that stops the session for the day.
- A maximum number of trades or a time window.
- Decide in advance what you will do after hitting the limit, and do it.
Tradion bots apply the session limits you set and stop when they are reached.
4. Be careful with martingale
Martingale doubles the stake after each loss to win back what was lost. It turns many small wins into rare, very large losses: after 8 losses at a starting stake of $1, the next stake is $256 and the total at risk is $511. It does not change the odds of any contract. Where a strategy allows martingale, treat it as the highest-risk setting and keep it off unless you fully accept that outcome.
5. Expect the house edge
Deriv's payouts are set so that, on average, the buyer loses a little on every contract. A bot follows its rules consistently, which removes emotional mistakes, but it cannot turn a negative average into a positive one. Read How We Test Our Bots.
6. Keep records and review them
Use the trading journal to review every session: stake, result, and whether you followed your own limits. Stop and reassess after a loss limit is hit, not after the next trade.
7. Only trade money you can afford to lose
Never trade borrowed money or money you need. If trading stops being something you can walk away from, stop and seek support.
